Nifty Daily For 18th July 2013

              Nifty opened with a meager gap up of 18 points, in spite of the big bang reforms band wagon across sector. The nifty managed pull up and test the 5990 levels but failed miserably to surpass 6000. It fell sharply with bank leading fall to the support of 5930. But the sharp increase in Hindustan Unilever and other defensive stocks kept nifty afloat, and closed in green with moderate gains. The banks were down anywhere between 3-7%. Bank Nifty has broken the lows corresponding to nifty lows 5477, which a grave sign. The various sectors are rotating to take nifty up or keep it steady. Sometimes it is Oil & Gas, sometimes Pharma, sometimes FMCG. The bank nifty has lost 6-7% in past two trading sessions whereas nifty has lost only 1%, clearly a huge under performance by bank nifty. The open interest in 5900 PE has not seen any unwinding indicating that there is still room for upside.

           The support for nifty is at 5920-5890-5860 and the resistance lies at 6000-6035-6085. Nifty July Future has been trading at 2-3 points discount to the spot. The implied volatility on the Nifty July Options of ATM strike calls were at 15.26 and for puts were at 20.59. India VIX closed at 19.36. PCR for Nifty based on open interest was at 1.22 and PCR for the day based on volumes was at 1.13 for the market.
